Rockstar North
Game Design Systems Intern

During my 3rd year at GCU, I completed a live brief for the Rockstar education department as part of my the integrated project (collaborating with artists, designers and developers). We were to design at game based on 1 of the 7 deadly sins. As the project was ending, there was an opportunity to apply for internships with Rockstar and I was successful in the interview process for the Game Design Systems Intern role with Rockstar North.

The overall project was to create a set of collectibles for the player to be led to with cryptic messages, culminating in a finale mission.

  • Prototyped a system for unlocking, spawning and tracking collectibles

  • Integrated the prototype system with the existing progression/flow system

  • Authored example progression data with a selection of messages and collectibles using in house tools and tested in game.

  • Authored finale mission AI, objectives and entity placement using in house content authoring tools, testing and refining gameplay.

The opportunity inproved my commincation skills and I feel I was quick to adapt to using in-house tools and worked well under pressure, whilst also being self-motivated working at home due to covid restrictions.

The parts that I worked on are discussed more in the Portfolio Section of my website along with some screenshots and videos of gameplay.

Erasmus+ Project
Work Placement in Italy

While studying at New College Lanarkshire I had the opportunity to apply to an Erasmus+ project, where students were placed in a 2-week work opportunity in Italy that suited their skills.

I was placed in a graphic design studio and my role involved animating 2D sprites using Adobe Animate, that the owner of the studio created for a client. This opportunity also involved attending regular Italian lessons. I enjoyed working and learning in Italy and it helped improve my time management, my communication skills and confidence.
